On Thursday, June 11th, the U.S. Bishops, gathered together for their Spring plenary assembly, will consecrate the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The annual Chrism Mass, where the Bishop blesses the holy oils to be used throughout the next year, and where the priests of the diocese renew the promises made at their ordination, will be on Thursday, March 26, at 6pm at the Cathedral of the Annunciation.

When December 8th falls on a Sunday, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is transferred to the following Monday, since it is outranked by the Sundays of Advent. It has been the practice int he U.S. to say that the obligation to attend Mass did not transfer with the feast. However, the Vatican has recently clarified that the day remains a Holy Day of Obligation even when it is transferred.
Therefore, Monday December 9th will be observed as a Holy Day of Obligation this year.

Bishop Cotta has released a statement regarding the recent declaration from the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith at the Vatican, which clarifies the possibility of offering simple blessings to persons who are living in irregular situations with regard to Catholic teaching on marriage and sexuality.
