Since September the arm of St. Jude has been brought to churches across the country and will be visiting our diocese from August 7th to August 11th.
“Relics in the Church have always received particular veneration and attention because the bodies of…the Saints, destined for the resurrection, have been on earth the living temple of the Holy Spirit and the instrument of their holiness.” (Relics in the Church: Authenticity and Preservation, Introduction)
We see examples of God performing miraculous works through relics and objects associated with people in the Bible: when a man was revived by being touched by the bones of the prophet Elisha (2 King 13:20-21); the woman who was healed of a hemorrhage by touching the hem of Jesus’ cloak (Mt 9:20-22); when people sought to be ‘touched’ by St. Peter’s shadow (Acts 5:12-15); when handkerchiefs which had been touched by St. Paul were put on the sick (Acts 19:11-12). In all these examples, it is the power of God, working through material things connected with those who have been filled with the Lord’s grace and power. St. Jude, one of the twelve Apostles, is known as a patron of difficult cases.
