Mentors in the Making

Buddy programs throughout the diocese offer meaningful opportunities for students of all ages to grow together. Older students are paired with younger ones and meet periodically for a variety of activities designed to foster connection and community.

Younger learners are inspired by the kindness and positive example set by their older buddies. Their confidence grows knowing that someone with such experience and grace has welcomed them into the school community and is looking out for them.

Older buddies, in turn, cultivate leadership and interpersonal skills such as patience, understanding and empathy. These experiences lead to personal reflection and a deeper sense of responsibility since they recognize the impact of being a role model.

Ultimately, programs like these strengthen the sense of community and opportunities for growth that set our Catholic schools apart. Growth in faith and character happens in community, through relationship, and as students journey together through shared experiences, they grow ever more fully into the people God calls them to be.
